"Anything Goes" is a Cole Porter song featured in Frank Sinatra's 1956 album Songs for Swingin' Lovers!.
History[]
"Anything Goes" was written by Cole Porter 1934 to be used in the musical Anything Goes, the same musical that features the song "I Get a Kick Out of You."
The lyrics of "Anything Goes" have gone through several changes throughout the years. The song's initial lyrics have become somewhat stale and dated, featuring references to Depression Era high society and gossip.[1] Revival versions of the musical, however, have featured much more generic lyrics to make the song seem less dated, putting newer references.[2]

Lyrics[]
In olden days a glimpse of stocking
Was looked on as something shocking
Now heaven knows, anything goes
Good authors too who once knew better words
Now only use four letter words writing prose
Anything goes
The world has gone mad today
And good's bad today
And black's white today
And day's night today
When most guys today that women prize today
Are just silly gigolos
In olden days a glimpse of stocking
Was looked on as something shocking
Now heaven knows, anything goes
Good authors too who once knew better words
Now only use four letter words writing prose
Anything goes
The world has gone mad today
And good's bad today
And black's white today
And day's night today
When most guys today that women prize today
Are just silly gigolos
So though I'm not a great romancer
I know that you're bound to answer
When I propose, anything goes
